What you’ll learn
From whole-joint disease to biological repair
In this module, you will explore and interact with material on using ESWT in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA).
Mechanotransduction-based regenerative treatments using ESWT have gained recognition as a non-invasive option that may relieve pain, improve function, and positively influence joint biology. Understanding the physics, biological mechanisms, and clinical applications of ESWT is essential to ensure that clinicians have all the therapeutic tools required to effectively treat patients with KOA.
You will examine the pathophysiology and burden of KOA, preclinical and clinical evidence supporting ESWT, differences between focused and radial applications, and the importance of localization strategies such as targeting subchondral bone versus cartilage. The module also highlights comparisons with other treatments, case studies, and ongoing research directions to better understand ESWT's role in delaying or complementing surgical interventions.
